Ongles Maily

Gel vs acrylic nails: which is right for you?

At Ongles Maily, we offer both gel and acrylic — two professional nail systems that deliver lasting results. Gel cures under a UV or LED lamp for a natural, glossy finish, while acrylic is air-dried and renowned for its exceptional strength and durability.

Which should you choose?

Gel and acrylic are the two leading technologies for long-lasting nail enhancements at professional salons. At Ongles Maily in Carrefour Beauport, our technicians are trained in both systems and will help you choose the one that best fits your lifestyle. Gel nails are applied as a liquid or soft putty that hardens under a UV or LED lamp. The finish is smooth, slightly flexible, and very glossy. Gel colours are vibrant and chip-resistant. Because the product is flexible, gel tends to feel more comfortable for clients who prefer nails that move a little with the natural nail. Gel requires a fill approximately every three weeks. Acrylic is created by mixing a liquid monomer with a powder polymer, forming a paste that hardens as it is shaped. It is slightly firmer than gel once set, making it an excellent choice for clients with naturally brittle nails or those who want longer extensions. Acrylic withstands everyday impacts well — typing, light gardening, cooking, and sports. It soaks off easily when it is time for removal and also needs a fill every three to four weeks. Both products are used daily across our salons and meet the strictest hygiene standards. All tools are replaced or sterilized between clients. Whether you choose gel or acrylic, you will leave with beautiful, durable nails. We recommend a consultation on your first visit so our technician can examine your natural nails and make the most suitable recommendation for you.
